Minister Says MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the potential threats posed by Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Safety Guidance for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss secret information while travelling in Chinese cars.

He stated that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any car, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese electric buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader security situation underscores the importance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of government activities, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
