Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
